A story of style, identity and the quiet power of cultural diplomacy

Fashion will once again prove that it is more than fabric, silhouette or trend. It will become a language that transcends borders, a form of storytelling that requires no translation. Between 18–20 September, this universal language will take center stage in London, where Diplomacy through Fashion will bring Romanian and British creativity together in a celebration of design, heritage and friendship.

Lucie Portman: The Diplomatic Elegance Behind the Vision

At the heart of the upcoming exhibition will stand Lucie Portman, the wife of the British Ambassador to Romania, whose involvement will shape the project with grace and intention. Lucie Portman represents a new generation of diplomatic influence —one that operates through culture, empathy and connection rather than protocol alone. Her refined aesthetic, calm energy and genuine interest in Romanian creativity will continue to make her a bridge between communities that might otherwise never meet.

Speaking about the project, Lucie Portman shared a message that captures its essence:

“Fashion has a remarkable ability to connect people. It tells stories of who we are, where we come from, and what we value. Bringing Romanian and British designers together in London is not just a celebration of creativity—it is a celebration of friendship.”

She sees fashion not as vanity, but as identity. Not as trend, but as narrative. Through her support, Diplomacy through Fashion will evolve into more than an exhibition—it will become a curated dialogue between two nations, a space where designers will express who they are and how they see each other. Her role will not be ceremonial; it will be catalytic. She will encourage collaboration, open doors, and ensure that the London showcase reflects both the warmth of Romania and the timeless sophistication of Britain.

Twenty-Seven Designers, Two Cultures, One Shared Creative Pulse

The London exhibition ( 18-20 September) will gather 27 established and emerging designers from Romania and the United Kingdom, each bringing their own aesthetic universe. Romanian designers have been invited to create two pieces: a signature look representing their identity, and a second piece inspired by a subtle touch of Britishness.

This British influence will appear in many forms: reinterpretations of classic tailoring, nods to punk heritage, color palettes reminiscent of London’s urban cool, or details inspired by royal fashion traditions. The result will be a vibrant exchange of ideas, craftsmanship and cultural nuance. Romanian designers will showcase sculptural silhouettes, rich textures and contemporary reinterpretations of folklore. British designers will contribute precision, minimalism, conceptual layering and the unmistakable elegance of British design heritage.

Together, they will create a visual conversation—one that will prove creativity can connect cultures more effectively than any speech.

Following the successful Diplomacy in Fashion show in Bucharest, the story will now continue in London — bringing together contemporary design, creativity and a touch of British–Romanian friendship.
